One of the greatest awards for the Hollywood industry happened yesterday Sunday March 2, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. The Oscars was hosted by Ellen Degeneres. Ellen as always got everyone enthusiast and even offered pizza. Made jokes about Jennifer Lawrence falling and asked celebrities questions. For example, Ellen asked Amy Adams if she had gone to college but Adams responded by saying no. Ellen even broke the twitter record and crashed twitter for a moment for most retweeted photo which included Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Lupita Nyong’o, Jared Leto and Kevin Spacey.

The Mexican director of “Gravity,” Alfonso Cuaron, made history by becoming the first ever Hispanic Director to win an Oscar. The scientific fiction film starting Sandra Bullock and George Clooney was one of the highlight of the night dominating the Oscars winning 7 awards for best Cinematography, Film Editing, Original Score, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects.
Another highlight of the night was “12 Years of Slave” directed by Steve McQueen who won Best Picture at the Oscars beating recognized films such as “American Hustle” and “Gravity.” Lupita Nyong’o won best supporting actress for her role in “12 Years of Slave” as Patsey. The film starting Chiwetel Ejiofor also won Adapted Screenplay. While “Dallas Buyers Club” won Best Makeup and Hairstyle. Some of their stars such as Matthew McConaughey won Best Actor while Jared Leto also won Best Supportive Actor.
“American Hustle” one of the most nominated movies ended up winning nothing. Amy Adams was nominated for best actress but Cate Blanchett ended up winning for her role in "Blue Jasmine.” Jennifer Lawrence was nominated also but Lupita Nyong’o won for Best Supporting Actress. Also Bradley Cooper was nominated for best supportive actor but Jared Leto won for his role on “Dallas Buyers Club.” In addition “American Hustle” was nominated for awards such as Best Editing and Original Score which “Gravity” won.
The animated film “Frozen” won 2 Oscar for Best Animated film and Best Original Song. The movie “Her” won Best Original Screenplay, “Mr. Hublot” won Best Animated Short Film, “The Great Gatsby” won best production design and costume design, “20 Feet from Stardom” won Best Documentary Feature, “The Lady in Number 6” won Best Documentary Short, and “The Great Beauty” from Italy won Best Foreign Film.
Pharrell William performed “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 and got everyone on their feets, he even showed some dance moves along with Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong'o, and Meryl Streep . U2 performed their song “Ordinary Love” from the movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Karen O performed “The Moon Song” from the movie Her. While Idina Menzel sang “Let it Go” from the animated movie Frozen. There were also memorable performance such as Pink who sang the song from the Wizard of Oz during the tribute. Finally Bette Midler also performed a song tributing famous celebrities who died last year.
One highlight at the red carpet was Jennifer Lawrence, last year Jennifer fell down while walking up the stairs to receive her Oscar. This year she fell down again for the 2nd straight time while she was at the red carpet.
